Infectious Diseases

HIV infections in the United States continue to be a major public health crisis. An estimated 1.2 million Americans are living with HIV, and 1 out of 8 people with HIV do not know they have it. Likewise, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there are approximately 20 million new STD infections each year. Despite their burdens, costs, and complications, and the fact that they are largely preventable, HIV and STDs remain significant public health challenges in Duval County. The goal for this strategic priority is to reduce HIV and STD incidence.
